May Wild Camp

Shorts and t shirts, jumpers, coats and woolly hats - just some of the items of clothing that we needed to wear over the 2 days. Some kids stayed in t shirts and shorts resolute that they were warm, meanwhile some of us layered up with coats and hats!! The weather had us all confused. Thankfully there was no rain to contend with.

As always its been a blast hanging out and learning with your kids in the woods. It’s been particularly wonderful to see the peer teaching that now happens so often, especially with the crew that come regularly. (They’ll all have me out of a job soon!!) They teach each other fire, craft and tools skills with such ease, patience and kindness. One of the girls even brought some of her own tie dye paints and taught those who wanted to learn how to do it. I love it!

We got crafty with some beautiful dried flowers, magic painting, clay and wheel weaving. There was plenty of daring tree climbing (and only a few rescues needed.) and lots of games, stories, swinging and hammocking to see us through the days when we needed to relax for a bit.

There is a trail of silver from the wood craft area all the way to the cabin and back again. I managed to recover all the tools but I’m sure the little elves and pixies will be so delighted with their haul of little silver nails left behind for them. I think I need to invest in a magnet to gather them all up easily at the end of session! I’ve no intention of making them stop. They tinker away with saws, hammers and nails creating some incredible things with wood that they find for hours and are so proud of their creations. It’s so good!!

Some of the crew are super experts now at lighting fires with flint and steel so we up levelled a bit and they had to be more resourceful in keeping their fires going. We even had a go at getting and ember from a bow drill. We weren’t successful this time- it’s a super tricky skills that takes quite a while to get to grips with the technique and all the variables!

I hope your kids enjoyed themselves running wild in the woods and I look forward to seeing you all again for another adventure soon,
